Access to and usage of items is controlled via the system security manager. Subject to this security, items may be published to courses, optionally via an LMS platform such as Blackboard®, or used in Scioware™ Presentation Portfolios.

Items in both the user's personal collection and shared library repository are searchable for easy access and retrieval.

Items in the library may have metadata added, as defined by the institution. Metadata may be standards compliant, such as IMS or Dublin Core, or may be customized.

A multiple library feature supports the creation of unique libraries with separate users and access rules.
